last_refresh date in dba_snapshots

I keep getting a refresh date of 01-Jan-1950 in the last_refresh field in dba_snapshots on Oracle 8i. My snapshots are refreshing correctly both manually and on schedule, but the date does not change. I've seen this problem reported several times in the past and was wondering if anyone as found the solution. My planned use of this field is relay the last time a snapshot was refreshed on forms and reports. All help is greatly appreciated.
