Did you also do alter database noarchivelog; in mount state? If you missed this I think you should restore the backup again and move forward from there.

If you get the database running, do a full export immediately as this will show up any serious corruption.

Is this program new, or recently changed? If so, get someone to check it really carefully before running it again. In any case, run the queries it uses separately to see if any errors are produced.

What does the alert log say, were any trace files generated?
