32 Bit Oracle memory limits

Hi,

We have situation with a n-class server (i think) with 6Gb of memory on it. We are currently running 8.1.5 32bit and plan to add 8.1.7 (32 bit). There will be 5-6 instances accross these versions. I understand that with this combination (32bit software - 64bit os) we can have a maximum of 1.75Gb of addressable memory for Oracle to use as SGAs.

My question is does this 1.75GB limit also apply to the memory requirements of the server process (per connection)? Or if all 5 databases sgas sum at <=1.75 Gb we would be ok and the memory up to 6gb could be used for client connections, pgas etc. Or is it the case that because these server processes are driven by a 32bit executable they can only address certain parts of memory too. Not too clear I understand session memory allocation too well!

I know we can possibly use these memory window things. Another option (and I like clarifaction on this too) is maybe to install 8.1.7 as the 64 bit version in which case this 1.75Gb limit would only apply to those 8.1.5 instances?

The main question is how is server Per-process memory, pgas etc. affected by this 1.75Gb limit if at all??

Many thanks
