timeout jdbc

A strange problem here.

ops 8.1.7, sun cluster 2.2 solaris 2.6, using the OCI8 driver through a JDBC connection pool.
We're using MTS on a fixed port range, client to server goes through a firewall.

Once in a while we encounter connection timeouts, which result in the following error "ORA 3113 : end of file on communication channel"

Any idea?
