Re: Oracle 8.1.7 EE on Windows XP

This topic, to me, is "related" to Oracle, although somewhat related to specific operating systems. The most important of all, I want to see opinions from the Oracle community rather than from other ones (Windows, Unix, etc.) Even in case a posted question is not so "pure" an Oracle one, I don't see why it is necessary to make a poster feel guilty or look like a criminal who is open-minded and willing to share. (etiquette?)

IMHO, the functions of a forum are not limited to only questions and answers, as also done by the vendor's technical support channels, but experience sharing among field experts and practioners (hopefully theoreticians too), through which technical synergy can be attained to.

In terms of "experts", there are many differnt kinds here: those who own indepth knowledge in Oracle database administration and/or development, those who own indepth knowledge in other database products or development platforms but have to work with Oracle from time to time, those who hold a wider range of knowledge but not so specifically "deep" in Oracle, those who do data warehousing, ERP, e-commerce ... with Oracle, ... and so on and so on. The synergy can be achieved just because we have different backgrounds and are willing to share.

In the case of Michael G. Schneider's, My sincere suggestions are: (1) the oldies treat the newbies nicely and help him or her to get the job done (2) the newbies can, in the soonest manner, understand the strengths and limitations of the underlined technology and make appropriate decisions. In short, be result-oriented and customer-oriented. (think of new comers as 'customers')

I believe positive thinking results in positive results, I do wish more thoughts about this could be aroused by my little spark.
