Hi there,
How often do you need to execute this query? For testing purpose, can you increase your sort_area_size. Since you are querying from two large tables, 100M of sort_area_size may not be sufficient. Can you note also how is your disk activities at the running of this query? Order by will require a sort and if your sort_area_size is not large enough, it will resolve to disk sort and merge all the sorted chunk back...so it's something not very desirable. I am just guessing. Test it out. No harm.
