A cold backup is a snapshot of a closed database taken at a specific
point in time.
When you recover from a cold backup, it is all or nothing - every single
user schema in the database goes back to that point.
So, if you have a database with, say, a dev and a live user (schema) set up, and you trash the dev one, but not the live. When you restore back to 'last nights dump', live goes back as well.

Subject: Re: Single instance multiple database?
How about if I have cold backup and recover.
Is it possible to recover only a tablespace to a specific moment in time from a cold backup? Received on Thu Nov 01 2001 - 04:30:46 CST
