ALTER INDEX .. [ONLINE] ..

Hi.

What implications does it have to resynchronize an index without the 'online' clause? I know that the index is not available for searches which it's getting resynchronized, but will the searches fail or only take longer?

What do people generally do on Oracle Standard Ed. when wishing to rebuild indexes (sync/optimize) and not having the 'online' feature of the enterprise ed.?
