Sounds like a great way to get started. I worked in application development
for 6 years and became very familiar with databases (Ingres and Oracle) from
an application developer standpoint. Later on, (ok, so much later on), a
position became available for a DBA within the same company. By then, I
knew what developers wanted from the database and this greatly helped me
when administering the database.
