On my defence I must say that I tried to find the answer from Oracle manuals
and this 8i advanced PL/SQL programming book but I found none.
But I did not try generic search.

Yes it generally is. This is an application (only some part of it runs on db
server) that has previously only supported SQLServer. I have converted it to
run on DB2 and Oracle is the next step. We want to support several different
databases and not to stick only on SQLServer.
