Unfortunately, that is so... Just like the many Unix "Gurus" around.

The competence of a manager comes into play here... Just as there are "good" programmers, there are obviously "good" managers - nothing we can do about that.

Yes, else "my programmers" wouldn't be managing the databases.
Remember, I did mention "run-of-the-mill" tasks.
In fact, I would not limit the ability to perform basic database management
tasks
just programmers - Anyone with a technical, analytical aptitude - and a will
to learn -
can handle it... There really isn't anything magical about it.
