Agree.

Disagree. The real DBA is the one that can telnet into a box, run SQL*Plus,
track the performance problem. And solve it. Without having to run screaming
"help! help!" to a silly little 3rd party tool sporting a fancy GUI and WIMP
interface.

A real DBA is one that is not afraid to roll up his sleeves and dig into a
problem. It is not about knowledge. It is about ATTITUDE. The type of attitude
that makes a person tackle the problems face on, with the basic tools the Oracle
manuals and the knowledge that knowledge and experience comes from hard work..
not from using silly little front-end tools that allows you to mess around with
the database, clueless to how the internals are working.

A real DBA can not be beaten by a database problem as he ALWAYS get up and come
back for more. No matter how battered and bruised.

A real DBA is one that makes his own tools. sh scripts. PL/SQL scripts.

A real DBA drinks real coffee. Not this decaf crap. And _never_ EVER something
like tea or bottled water!

And of course..

A real DBA rides off into the sunset with the tunes of The Magnificent Seven
playing in his head.
