Problem installing 8.1.7 Enterprise Edition on Linux

I've downloaded the 500Mb installation tar: linux81701.tar and unpacked it. It appears to have some files missing at the top level. For example there is no runInstaller or products.jar. With some sym linking (to the subdirectories under
Disk1/stage/Components/oracle.swd.oui/1.7.1.8.0/1/DataFiles/Expanded and Disk1/stage/Components/oracle.swd.jre/1.1.8/1/DataFiles/Expanded) I've managed to get to the point that the installer will run. I've no idea how I can reconstruct the products.jar (or whether it is hiding under another name inside the structure I have). Does anyone know where I could get this file separately, or how I can construct it from what I have?

thanks
