Certification shows that you have the initiative to study and take tests on very technical information. It may not get you any more money right away or ever, but after a little experience having certification could help with landing an interview if not a position. I am an Oracle Certified Professional DBA version 8. Now I just have to take 1 test for each new version that comes out. If the trend changes and companies start requiring certification I won't have to worry about cramming for 5 test, only 1.
