Well.... Have to say that, for performance reasons, I'd be implementing huge online redo logs that never switch of their own accord, and scheduling an 'alter system switch logfile' at 1.00am. I'd rather not have checkpoints occuring throughout the day and slowing things down, and this way I can control when the checkpoints take place.
Issuing it every morning sounds fairly usual and regular to me! ;-)
