3 default databases were created as ORACLE8i was being installed. One was named following the local host (just used for educational purposes, which was downloaded
from oracle corp. as a trialware and was used as a standalone server)

I used the DBA studio as a starting point. I right click on the database the one named as the local host. I was forced to use SYSDBA for logging on. ( i can't remember what the reason was, but vaguely the database was unavailable or something...

after entering from the logon screen, the 'ORACLE not available' error occurs, which is showed in the big square box in the middle of the right panel. But at the same time, several tree items are shown. I right click on 'database' and click on 'open' radio box in the panel on the right. The database can't be connected and 'open' hops back to 'shutdown' and 'ORACLE not available' message still existed. Could you point out where I was doing wrong? and please to give me remedies to the problems mentioned? I'm ready to supply further information on this matter! Thanks in advance
