Do you mean you want to be able to read the contents of the active log? Because if so, Log Miner was introduced in 8.1 for just precisely that purpose (and it works just fine on inactive and archived logs too -and even on version 8 logs supplied from an 8.0 database external to your 8.1 one).
It's supplied with 8.1 as standard, for free.... but I suspect (but haven't checked) that it might be an Enterprise Edition only feature.
If that's not what you meant, maybe you could re-phrase your request, or indicate precisely what it is you are trying to achieve.
