I've configured one of my 7.3.4 databases (HP-UX) in MTS architecture. This permits you fix a port number in listener.ora. I then put this port number into tnsnames.ora at my Webserver machine. It works through a firewall.

I think some news possibilities have come with 8.x.x to easily configure databases in a firewall'ed network. But I know little.
