In general, the version of oracle up to 8.0.6 should be installed first. The 8.1.x binaries should be installed afterward. Its best if they share a common %ORACLE_BASE% - e.g.

D:\Oracle

	  \Admin
	  \Ora80
	  \Ora81

You might adjust the DEFAULT HOME with the Oracle_Home selector.
