Sybrand, first thanks for your help.
As for the ORACLE_SID dos env var, I would assume any dos env vars that Oracle needs it would set up in the installation process?
I will try the trace stuff.
Apologies for the basic questions, I am not an Oracle DBA, but just installing it so that I can use the database with WebLogic J2EE.
