  1. You can record CDs under UNIX with the cdrecord utility. A link to it can be found on freshmeat.net.
  2. Windows NT versions that I've seen lately include the 'rsh' and 'rcp' utilities. They always work in binary mode, and most UNIX sysadmins should be intimately familiar with them. They are no less secure than ftp, although you should investigate www.openssh.com.
