I have noticed that Oracle installation installs JRE v1.0 on a windows box and changes the registry to point to that version even if a newer version already exists. This breaks the jre.

check that the registry points to the JRE you want to use:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE | SOFTWARE | Javasoft | Java Runtime Environment | Current Version | <the current version>
