If your using Windows then look at Ultra Edit. About $30.00 US. Built-in diff utility, FTP, syntax highlight, associate files with a project, and even HEX editing.

Personally, I use Vim for its power. But you have to be a die hard Vi/Unix fan to be productive with it.
