Yes. But you'd backup before a service pack upgrade anyway right?

Maybe. Does it run slow on specific operations, have you identified the bottlenecks? Memory,io etc.

Certainly will help. 1GB would be better.
However you might well be better advised to seperate the web server and the dbms. The two applications have quite different characteristic and so should be tuned differently.
