Re: ORA-12663: Services required by client not available on the server

According to the doc on MetaLink, it is simply not a supported feature of Oracle 8. Verbatim quote:

"Note the following extract from the SQL*Plus Release Notes of the V8.0.5 installation:

• When connect to V8 server, DESCRIBE command cannot be used for describing objects on V7 server."
