New to Oracle

I am new to Oracle as an application, but I have worked with several other DB's out there in the world. I have two questions:

  1. I really don't want to use the Oracle Designer. Its development process is way off my own and I would like to work with the database objects directly. What is the best tool to go about doing this. I have been trying to work with DBA studio, but it is made for DBAs, not developers. What tools, either made by Oracle or made by others, would you all suggest. I am more of a Java programmer, but this has been added to my Job Desc.
  2. On a quick note, how do you create Schema's. I have been able to create users, but I can't see how to create a schema from Enterprise Manager. Dumb question, but I am very new to Oracle.

Cheers,
Gill Potter
