Oracle 8.1.6 database not starting on NT

Can anyone suggest an answer, or know a test I can make to discover why my 8.1.6 database will not start up automatically when I reboot the NT server. I have tried oradim -edit -sid xxxxx -startmode auto but no luck :( There are about 5 other similar instances and they work fine.
