Help needed with: ORA-03113

Over the last few days, I'm trying to get Oracle 8i (8.1.6) operational on my WinNT 4 (SP 6)

I cannot create a database using the Database Configuration Assistant. It reported the ORA-03113 error.

So I tried to use manual scripts to create the database. There is no problem using oradim to create the SID.

But when I use "svrmgrl", I also get the ORA-03113 error ("End of file on = communication channel"). Naturally, I am stucked and cannot use other scripts to create the database.
I have set the ORACLE_SID already, and the SYSTEM PATH seems alright.

I have tried reinstalling Oracle 8i serveral times, but it does not help.
I think some time ago, somebody also has the same problem(on AIX) in this forum, but I was not able to find the answer from his/her discussion.

any help is much appreciated :(
