Hello Oracle Gurus,

I'm hoping somebody here can help me with a problem I am having with Oracle Redo Logs.
I will be taking over a website from an Internationally Recognized Consulting firm who shall remain nameless and they have an issue they have been unable to resolve, despite opening a few TARS with Oracle.

Here is the basic situation.

The servers will run fine for 2-3 weeks and will suddenly stop logging to the REDO file due to a "Destination Not Found Error". We are able to verify at this point that the destination is still there, valid, and has plenty of space.

Here is the official trouble report we have from the said company -

DESCRIPTION: this is Change Request for Redo Log not archiving due ORA-16041 destination not recognized (#1144). As of 10/11 we are continuing to have the same problem where the database is failing to archive. For some reason the path is not being recognized. Writing to this path and directory has been checked out OK. The current solution is to shutdown the database and restart. Currently I have opened another TAR with Oracle as we have received a new error ORA-19502. On Nov 15, problem re-occurred, log 3 sequence# 1286 not archived, no available destinations DIAGNOSIS: change request procedure commenced. RESOLUTION:see attachement Change Request form. On Hold for Client to review the Change Request. VOC requested to schedule patch implementation to staging on Mon 11/06 after estern normal business hour. Patch installed. VOC will monitor stability for the next 2-3 weeks. (until aprox. early Dec) REOCCURING PROBLEM:Wed Nov 15 23:17:06 2000

The website has two Sun 5.7 Solaris 7 8/99 s998s_u3SunServer_11 SPARC servers running Oracle 8.1.6
The Sun OS has never been patched ( Don't say it, I recommended this, but we don't control the boxes yet.)
Both Oracle boxes were unpatched when this problem began. They patched one box with all of the patches recommended by Oracle, but this did not resolve the problem.

I know very little about Oracle, but I was hoping somebody here could shed some light on some possible resolutions. We are hoping to get this resolved before we take over the site next month.

Thanks in advance for all those who read this question
