redo logs corrupt - any idea

We had a crash of our ORACLE 8 database (ORACLE CONTEXT activated) on AIX 4.3.3. Now we have the probem, that the redo logs have an error, too. We do have a backup, but i have a question to you. Does anyone has a idea how it can happen, that the redo logs get corrupt ? We are using RAID1, so that it may not be the fault of the disks or operating system.
