Greg,

I would suggest posting your question on the Spatial Discussion boards in OTN (technet.oracle.com). Experience tells me you'll find a larger crowd there prepared to discuss issues w/ spatial.

FYI, I work for a company that sometimes partners with and sometimes competes with ESRI. For this reason I do not want to provide any direct opinions on SDE .vs. Spatial. You can find discussions related to this on the aforementioned discussion board in OTN.
