If you're going to buy brand new, shiny 64-bit Sun boxes, why would you install an OS that does not take advantage of the hardware? Back when solaris 2.6 and 7 were coming out, they blew away current database performance records. It's still arguably the best platform for DBMS. If you're betting the farm on your software, do it right and run Solaris. Get a support contract in case you have any problems.
