Oracle 8.1.6 installation error on Solaris 8 for Intel

I am installing Oracle 8.1.6 that was included with the Solaris 8 package that I received from Sun. It appears that the $ORACLE_HOME/admin/oracle/pfile directory is not being created, and specifically the $ORACLE_HOME/admin/oracle/pfile/initoracle.ora file is missing.

I have done a successful install/database creation of Oracle 8.1.6 Enterprise on Redhat Linux 6.2. I used the same install configuration (users/directories/etc.) for both installs.

Any ideas?
