Data Migration

We are doing a data migration process from a old system to a new one. Some of the tables contain upto 10million rows in average. One of them has about 10million rows with 5indexes. We tried doing a data migration on this table alone and it went on for a day plus. The server config is HP Netsrvr 2000 with Dual PIII, 1GB RAM, Disk Array with Raid 5 running WintNT 4.0 SP6 and Oracle 8.1.5.

Since we have to schedule the pull down of our old system and put the new one in place, we are looking for some estimates.

How much average time would it take to create an index on a table with 1million row and 1 index with consideration to the number of keys in the index and referential integrities .
Is there a better way of doing the data migration if I were to choose between an Import and an Insert
The above case is for around 5 tables and should I consider tuning some of the system parameters.
