I don't agree. The number is 50 %. The other 50 % are from Redmond.
On the one hand you are right: it is a crude violation of the integrity of your software if Oracle replaces system components like DLLs or registry entries. On the other hand no real OS may allow that.
The funny thing is: if you install MS Office 2000 on a Windows computer
200 (two hundred) system DLLs of Windows are replaced during this
process. This shows:
- replacing DLLs during installation is very common on windows platforms
- MS Office programmers don't agree with the results of MS Windows
programmers. They don't accept their own APIs.
So who is to blame Oracle for doing the same?
Look:
Three years ago I configured my home computer as a dialup router with
NAT.
Then I installed Oracle 8.0.5. Everything fine.
Then I installed a Office suite. Everything works.
Then I upgraded the OS. Everything fine.
Then I installed another Office suite, another two RDBMSes , and still
everything works fine.
Why? Since I don't use any flavor of an OS which allows application
software to replace system components.
Have fun!
