I installed Oracle 8i release 2(8.1.6.1) on a dual cpu redhat 7.0 linux
server using the custome option and didn't choose the create starter
database option. Installation went OK, but now I cannot create a database
using svrmgrl. Svrmgrl hangs indefinitely when running "startup nomount"
command; what's worse I see a ton of core dump directories under
$ORACLE_HOME/dbs directory.

Any ideas what's broken or wrong??

Thanks,
Arun
