data dictionary reset

I work on Linux 2.2.14 and Oracle Database is 8.1.6.1.0.

     I recompiled a procedure with the new source and checked that the new source was getting reflected in dba_source.But the next time when the database was shutdown and restarted I didn't see the new version of procedure.

   Has anyone encountered a problem like this when data dictionary was not updated.
