I installed an oracle 7.3.3 database on a laptop running NT4 SP5, as well as the client app that will be accessing the database. I set up the new database in the tnsnames using SQLnet easy config. So far so good. Then I couldnt connect to the DB usind SQL*PLUS so I edited the listener.ora file so that the SID_NAME = the database name in the SID_LIST_LISTENER parameter. Now when I start and mount the database I connect automatically to the new database, but if I try a "connect user/pwd_at_dbname in either SQL*PLUS or svrmgr I get a "TNS:listener failed to start a dedicated server process" error. I have done this before but cant remember having any problems trying to connect using the tnsnames file as the application has to. I know its something simple but am stumped for the time being.

suggestions??
