I have the same problem. Perhaps I just didn't wait long enough. I'm running on a dual P-III 450 and it was still "locked up" with no apparent disk access (the light didn't come on) for over 8 hours. I gave up. I deleted all the Oracle stuff from my HD and simply decided that PostgreSQL had all the features that I needed. And it installed from the RPMs in about 10 minutes. I've had zero problems with it so far, but I'll admit that I'm not a heavy users. I wanted the Oracle just for learning purposes.
