Hi Spenser,

Your answer was very helpful. I had started using the decode function but wasn't sure how to use it in order to form logical expressions and your suggestion showed me the way. I noticed also that oracle 8.1.6 in addition to the DECODE function provides also a CASE which could be used to select column values based on where clauses and the resulting statement is more readable compared to the case where nested DECODEs are used.
