OWAS 4.0 start over hundred of processes

I have installed Oracle Application server 4.0 on an old Linux box with 32MB of RAM for the sake of practice. I know Oracle recommends a much higher figure for running the software, but since it is only supposed to support one or two concurrent users, I thought it should be ok to go ahead.

The installation went fine, the problems is when I request a page from the web server "http:/<hostname>:8888", the response time is awfully slow. I also noticed many processes on the Linux box start swapping. But the actually problem is I think bcos by default the "owsctl start" command starts dozens of instances of the sames programs like otsfacsrv and oraweb. And it the end, the OWAS unix user accounts for over hundred concurrent processes on the system! And each of instance of course uses up some precious physical memory.

I wonder if it is feasible to reduce the number of instances to solve the performance problem? If yes, how could that be achieved? The online document, even the Performance and Tuning section, does not provide any hints on configuring the number of instances.

I would appreciate any suggestion from the experts out there. Thanks Received on Thu Oct 12 2000 - 17:41:13 CDT
