it's not clear from your post exactly what you are trying to accomplish. you don't mention the operating system version or version of oracle, whether the hardware configurations are identical, what version of oracle, whether the oracle datafiles are on raw partitions or file systems, whether you can take the database down, whether you plan to have both machines up and running at the same time, or even give us a clue as to what you mean by "workspace".

that said, if you are attempting to "clone" (that is, create a copy of) an Oracle database, then check out the archives of Oracle magazine, and look for an article on DBClone, a technique (including scripts you can download) you can use to create an exact copy of a database.
