Using external authentification with NT and Ora 7.3.4

I would like to use the external option instead of a password for ODBC connections.

With MS SQL server, everything works fine. I click trusted connection in ODBC, give the client "sa" priviliges, and that's it.

With Oracle, I enter "\" as the login ID, but nothing I do with the user in NT, will get Oracle to accept the login.

What am I missing?
What would I need to to with user i.e. test / test in Oracle and NT to get things running?

Thanks,
