Using LDAP or Microsoft Active Directory with Oracle EE

Greetings!

I'm being asked to determine what options are available for using LDAP or Microsoft's Active Directory to control access to Oracle (single sign-on).

I'd like to hear from any of you who have information/experience with integrating Oracle with LDAP or Active Directory.

Specifically my questions are these:

  1. Does Oracle support both/either for access control? I seem to have read somewhere it did (8.x & up?) but can't seem to put my finger on the exact paragraph in the Oracle manuals. 2) Does Oracle require any software in order to implement LDAP or Active Directory access control in addition to the 8i EE? (I'm uncertain as to whether Oracle Advanced Networking is required; I know Net8 supports LDAP or Active Directory, but does Oracle authentication require Advanced Networking Option?). 3) Are there Open Source tools for connecting Oracle to LDAP/Active directory?

Addionally respond to bradc_at_andrews.edu since I'm not subscribed to the list.

Thanks in advance.
