Connect to Oracle via ASP/ADO on NT IIS Web Server

Here's what I know from reading learnasp.com and askasp.com:

The confilct:

Oracle's site says SQL*Net is replaced by Net8. Can't find and info on above asp sites on Net8. They do have walkthroughs setting up with SQL*Net.

I have about 20 Oracle disks that our in house Oracle "Expert" gave me, none of them appear to have SQL*Net. I downloaded and installed the Oracle Enterprise manager (253 meg!). It also installed Net8. I went through the setup and can see the database with SQL Plus. When I go to Control Panel, ODBC, Create New, Pick the "MS ODBC for Oracle 2.5xxx", I still get the error: "Oracle client and networking components were not found..."

Bottom line:

If Net8 replaces SQL*Net, why can't I create the ODBC connection? Do I still have to use SQL*Net instead? If so, where can I get it. I can't find it on any of the Oracle CDs, or on their site. I'm looking for the minimum Oracle component install to have to put on the IIS machine.

Thanks for the help.

P.S. Isn't there a faq on this anywhere? Seems like it would be a common thing. Received on Fri Aug 25 2000 - 15:59:39 CDT
