BLOB and performance

I was wondering about the performance issues of using a BLOB to store small images.
How does it compare to file access ?
Does it take extra DBA work ?
How does it influence backup/restore times ?

Our BLOBs have an average size of 8k and we do have plenty of them (about 10 million).
We are working with PROC in a UNIX environment.

Any links to good performance measures would be appreciated Received on Sat Aug 19 2000 - 05:50:17 CDT
