Enterprise Manager 8.1.6

Hello,

Today's question is about this Enterprise Manager program that I seem to have to use with 8.1.6.

I have created a repository database, together with an adminstrator user. I'm happy that this user has been created correctly, because I created it with the Enterprise Manager Configuration Assistant.

When I actually try and run the Console program I can't get past the login stage. It's consistently complaining that it can't connect to the management server, no matter what configuration of host name I put in, eg hostname, hostname.domainname, databaseservice.domainname, etc.

The help file is of course suitably ambiguous on this. What exactly does it mean by "management server"? Are we talking about a database service on a particular host, or the actual host itself? Either way which ever configuration of name I put in it rejects it. Despite trying to run it on the same machine the database is actually running on.

Help please, before I put my fist through the screen...!!!

Tarik
