Yep, I fixed it by commenting out the line in init.ora that said -

os_authent_prefix = ""

BTY,
The manual says that os_authent_prefix defaults to "ops$". This is strictly true if you don't set it to anything, however in the default supplied init.ora it is set to "", which is a little different.
