yup - I've got serveral machines where SHMMAX is 4GB and the overall RAM + swap is 3GB. Works fine. I'd check they've got the security/recommended patch set as it could be problem with their particular hardware and Sol 2.6 thats been fixed (althought I can't quickly see anything on sunsolve).
