Tapes fail. It's a very good idea to keep a series of recent full/hot backups and, hence, you require copies of all the archive logs between them.

Similarly, keeping duplicates of archive logs on separate tapes is good practice - save any one log out to separate drives.

Budgets, of course, permitting.
